Staff and students Pose for a shot after walk through Finance Junction to sensitize the Population about World Obesity Day

The CBC Health Services has wrapped up a fantastic week raising awareness about obesity and healthy living for World Obesity Day, celebrated March 4, 2024 across the globe.

Our staff as well as some children of our CBC School Complex Nkwen donned their sporty attire for a walk through Finance Junction and back to the Baptist Centre, followed by dance sports and games. Key messages on the placards included “Invest in yourself, invest in your weight, embrace the change”, "Maintain a healthy weight before pregnancy, during pregnancy and after birth”, “Exercise maintains a healthy weight, be fat but be fit” - just to name but these. This year, our focus is on "Obesity and Pregnancy" - a critical topic for mom and baby's well-being since obesity can increase the risk of complications for both mom and baby during pregnancy. Health talks in OPDs, wards, schools, markets, radio talks, panel discussions characterized the week’s activities in various health centres and hospitals of the CBC Health Services.

It is important to note that Obesity is an abnormal or excessive fat accumulation in the body that presents a health risk to the body and it is most commonly measured by the body mass index (BMI). The day was therefore set aside to raise awareness about the impact of the disease on individuals, communities, and health systems across the globe.
